Job Responsibilities:
Equipment Management & Maintenance
- Manage and maintain mechanical equipment used in tunnelling works, including TBMs, slurry systems, pumps, and compressors.
- Coordinate routine maintenance, fault diagnosis, and troubleshooting to minimise downtime.
- Ensure availability of mechanical spare parts and tools for tunnel operations.
Ventilation & Safety Systems
- Design, install, and maintain ventilation systems to ensure compliance with workplace safety and health standards.
- Monitor air quality and environmental conditions within the tunnel environment.
Slurry & Excavation Systems
- Oversee slurry separation and handling systems, especially for mechanised tunnelling.
- Support in managing excavation systems, ensuring safe and stable face pressure is maintained during TBM operations.
Instrumentation & Monitoring
- Implement and maintain mechanical instrumentation systems for monitoring ground movement, pressure, temperature, and vibration.
- Ensure calibration and data integrity of instruments used during tunnelling works.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all mechanical systems and equipment meet statutory requirements and internal safety standards.
- Participate in risk assessments and method statement reviews related to mechanical operations.
Coordination & Documentation
- Work closely with civil, structural, and geotechnical teams to coordinate work interfaces.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, reports, and technical documentation.
- Support commissioning and testing of mechanical systems.
Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
- Respond to mechanical failures during operations and lead timely resolution.
- Recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability and tunnel efficiency.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in tunnel or underground construction projects (preferably with a main contractor).
- Minimum 4 years of experience with tunnel boring machines (TBM), slurry management, and ventilation systems.
- Experienced working under compressed air, microTBM, pipe roofing will be an advantage.
- Sound knowledge of mechanical principles, hydraulics, pneumatics, and instrumentation.
- Hands-on, proactive, and able to work in a site-based, fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
